From our humble beginnings on March 28th, 2012, with a very small group of organizers, we began our goal of wanting to serve our community. We started by buying a bunch of tacos on taco Tuesday and passed them out to those who were hungry in Pioneer Park, downtown Salt Lake. That grew and blossomed into a 1,500 volunteer effort making over 1,000 homemade bean and cheese burritos being passed out in squads with squad leaders for safety purposes along with donated hygiene supplies and refreshments (lemonade in the warmer weather and cappuccino in the cooler weather). We created H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Evolve) Locker project. It was a mobile storage unit with 32 individual lockers for those who wanted to store their belongings and not bring them with them to job interviews or just not have to worry about carrying them around. A community garden was created in Utah County where neighbors could grow their own produce and sustainability efforts. We also were eyes and ears for local law enforcement to assist in reducing crime and disposing of hazardous items such as used needles. Also provided first aid and assisted in getting emergency medical attention for those in need. Finally, our CausePlay team dress as princesses and superheroes to bring joy and smiles to those we serve in the community via local parades, charitable events, and raising awareness at community events.
